Sawaru Glyph is a haptic reading program that allows learners to “see and touch to read” three-dimensional letters while listening to audio and watching visuals.
The program is very simple to use and can be utilized not only in clinics and schools but also at home.
Learning begins with basic phonics rules, starting from simple sound-spelling combinations and gradually progressing to more complex ones.
Additionally, learners develop their skills from mastering basic vocabulary to understanding sentences rich in imagery.
This program enhances memory of letter forms, associations between spelling and sounds, and memory of word forms, while also improving naming speed functions.
Ultimately, it aims to comprehensively strengthen the brain’s reading and writing networks.
Play the audio-visual content, then “see, touch, and read aloud.”

Sawaru Glyph materials include dedicated audio-visual content. Log in to the website and play the designated content. As the audio plays, the letters and spelling of each word are marked up on the screen. After the audio ends, use the three-dimensional Sawaru Glyph letters to “see, touch, and read aloud.”
There are a few seconds between the end of one word’s markup and the display of the next word. During this time, focus on seeing, touching, and reading aloud with Sawaru Glyph.
Use the surface of your fingers to feel the letters and spelling.

Instead of using your fingertips, use the surface of your fingers to touch the three-dimensional letters. Slowly confirm the flat shapes of the letters and spelling with the surface of your fingers. Follow the pace of the markup displayed in the audio-visual content, and move from left to right as you “see, touch, and read aloud” the words.
As you read aloud, focus on the sound of the word resonating in your mind and the tactile sensations of the spelling transmitted through the surface of your fingers.
Step-by-Step Learning Program
Sawaru Glyph is a step-by-step haptic reading program designed for progressive learning.
First, the “Phonics Materials” are used. Following phonics rules, learners progress from simple sound-spelling combinations to complex ones, and finally to sight words. This stage focuses on developing memory for letter forms and the associations between spelling and sounds.
Next, the “1,000 Words Materials” are introduced. By engaging with a large number of high-frequency and high-imagery English words, learners build memory for word forms.
Finally, the “High-Imagery Sentences Materials” are implemented. By reading haptically through sentences rich in imagery and context, learners strengthen the brain’s reading and writing networks.
Regular Assessments

Sawaru Glyph materials include assessment sheets to evaluate the effectiveness of haptic reading practice. Reading and writing skills are assessed regularly to measure progress.
The process begins with an initial assessment. After completing a certain period of haptic reading practice, a follow-up assessment is conducted. Once all sections are completed, a final assessment is carried out to compare changes from the initial evaluation.
The assessment consists of three main tasks:
- RAN (Rapid Automatized Naming)
- Word Speed Reading Task
- Sentence Speed Reading Task
These tasks measure changes in naming speed and reading fluency.
